F1 Fantasy Game Rules

Teams

You start with an initial budget of $100 million, which you can spend to build each team made up of 5 drivers and 2 constructors.
Every driver and constructor you select earns points based on their performance in real Formula 1 events — including Qualifying, the Race, and Sprint sessions.

There is no limit on the number of drivers you can pick from the same real F1 team. You can also make changes to your team as much as you like before the season starts. During the season, you can manage your team using substitutions (reserve changes) and the chips described below.

In any leagues you join, the lineup used each week will be the last saved team.
During the season, you can create and manage up to 3 teams.

Budget

At the start, you have $100 million to spend on 5 drivers and 2 constructors.
Throughout the season, driver and constructor prices may go up or down, which will affect your overall team value.

If the price of one of your drivers or constructors increases, you can sell them at the higher price and free up a larger budget to spend on other selections.
As a result, your available budget (and other players’ budgets) may go above or below $100 million during the season.

Total Value

Your Total Value is the sum of:

  • the total price of your current team, plus
  • your remaining budget.

Example: If your 5 drivers + 2 constructors cost $93 million and you have $10 million left, your total value is $103 million.

Race Week

A Race Week is the time period during which each Formula 1 event takes place.
Usually, a race week includes 1 Qualifying session and 1 Race session. Some race weeks also include a Sprint session, when Sprint is part of the event weekend.

Reserve Lineup (Transfers)

The reserve lineup allows you to make up to 6 changes to your team each race week before the lock time.

  • Your first 3 changes are free each race week.
  • Any additional changes will cost -10 points per extra change.
  • Each time you save a change, your available reserve changes decrease by 1.
  • You can make as many changes before the lock time as your reserve changes allow.
  • Unused changes do not carry over to the next race week.

Because prices change dynamically, using reserve changes can help you increase your budget beyond $100 millionduring the season — allowing you to pick stronger drivers and constructors to score more points.

Dynamic Pricing

Driver and constructor prices change continuously based on:

  • real F1 results, and
  • how often users buy/sell them in Fantasy.

To grow your budget beyond $100 million, you can use reserve changes each race week to add or remove drivers/constructors and benefit from price movements.

Because prices can change quickly, the final price is the one shown at the moment you save your team, even if it is slightly different from the price you saw while selecting.

DRS Boost

This chip can be played every race week and doubles (2x) the points scored by the selected driver.

  • You must choose the DRS Boost driver before saving your team.
  • You can change your DRS Boost selection each race week with no penalty, because changing the boosted driver does not count as a reserve transfer.
  • If the boosted driver scores negative points, the negative score is also doubled
    (e.g., -5 becomes -10).

Extra DRS (Mega Driver)

This chip triples (3x) the points scored by the selected driver.

  • Any driver in your team can be selected as the Mega Driver (in addition to DRS Boost rules as described).
  • Each Extra DRS chip lasts for one race week only and is automatically removed from the next race week onward.
  • If the selected driver scores negative points, the negative score is tripled
    (e.g., -8 becomes -24).

Wildcard

The Wildcard chip lets you make unlimited changes during a race week without losing points, as long as you stay within the $100 million budget.
It lasts for one race week only and is automatically removed for the next race week.

Limitless

Like Wildcard, the Limitless chip allows unlimited changes — but without any budget limit for that race week.

Example: You can select Max Verstappen, Lando Norris, Sergio Pérez, Lewis Hamilton, and Charles Leclerc (total $112 million), and choose Red Bull ($27.9m) and McLaren ($23.2m) as constructors.

After the race week ends, your team automatically returns to your original saved lineup.

AutoPilot

Before each race week, players can choose a driver from their lineup for DRS Boost (2x points).
If AutoPilot is activated, F1 Fantasy will automatically apply DRS Boost to the driver in your team who scores the most points that week — if that driver is different from your original choice.

No Negative Chip

No Negative is a great chip for risk control. If any of your drivers or constructors score negative points during a race week, their negative score will be reduced to zero.

Final Fix Chip

Final Fix allows you to make one change to your Fantasy lineup after the deadline.

This deadline passes after the Qualifying session ends and remains available until the Grand Prix starts.

Leagues

Leagues let groups of users compete against each other and fight for top positions on the league table.

Your team is automatically added to:

  • the Global League,
  • your Home Country League, and
  • your Favorite F1 Team League.

Only Team 1 can join these three standard leagues.

You can also create and join private or public leagues with friends. Leagues may be:

  • single-team (one team per user),
  • two-team (up to 2 teams per user),
  • three-team (up to 3 teams per user).

Friends can join easily using the league’s unique code.
Each season, you can join up to 250 leagues.

Tie-breakers

If two players have the same points in the current Grand Prix round, the tie is decided by:

  1. The player with the highest total points across all rounds (including current; excludes qualifying rounds where the player did not qualify)
  2. The number of races finished by the player in the current round (more is better)
  3. The total number of finished races across all rounds (including current; excludes qualifying rounds where the player did not qualify)
  4. The best single-lap time recorded in the current round
  5. If still tied, the best single-lap time from previous rounds (excluding current, and excluding qualifying rounds where the player did not qualify)

Lock Time

At the start of the Qualifying session in each race week, all teams are locked, and no further changes are allowed for the rest of that race week.

After lock, all teams become visible to all users in public tables.
The next race week opens at the same time as its lock countdown begins — meaning you can again add/remove drivers and constructors and potentially grow your available budget.

Results

Race week results are confirmed shortly after the sessions end. League tables update soon after, so you can see how you performed compared to your friends and other users.

Postponed or Cancelled Sessions

  • If a session is postponed within the same race week, its points still count for that race week.
  • If a session is cancelled, no points from that session will be awarded.
  • If an entire event is moved to another date within the same season, points will be awarded when the event is actually held.
  • If an event is cancelled, no points related to that event will be awarded.

Other

In case of unexpected circumstances (including but not limited to cancellations, natural disasters, force majeure, or other unforeseen events), the points structure may be adjusted reasonably to match the situation.

FIA penalties that affect qualifying, starting position, or final position are applied and may be updated within 24 hoursafter an FIA decision.

FIA penalties related to constructors (e.g., points deductions for rule breaches) do not apply in F1 Fantasy.

What’s New for the 2025 Season

Transfers

If your driver participates in a Sprint but is replaced before Grand Prix Qualifying, you will receive a transfer offer to avoid disqualification penalties.
This counts toward your transfer limit; exceeding the limit results in a -10 point penalty.

Pit Stop Points

During the Grand Prix (not Sprint), constructors earn points for pit stops based on their fastest pit stop time in the race.

  • The constructor with the overall fastest pit stop receives a +5 bonus.
  • If a new world record is set, the bonus becomes +15 points.

Disqualification Penalties

This season, disqualification penalties apply to the constructor, not the driver.
Disqualified drivers score 0 points for the session they were disqualified from.

Scoring System

Points are added/deducted based on driver/constructor performance in the Grand Prix weekend. Weekend classifications are based on FIA and Formula 1 decisions.

  • Exceeding the free transfer limit: -10 points per additional transfer

* Positions gained/lost are based on the driver’s start vs. finish position in the race, not qualifying. Drivers with no time set do not receive position-loss points, but receive the -20 penalty. Cars starting from the pit lane are considered to have started from the last grid position.
** Overtakes count only when one driver legally passes another on track (not while the other driver is entering pit lane, has a mechanical issue, or is driving unreasonably slowly).
*** Driver of the Day refers to the official F1® Driver of the Day award.
**** Disqualified drivers cause a penalty for their constructor; the driver scores 0 for that session and cannot be Driver of the Day. Pit stops performed for a driver later disqualified are not counted for constructor pit stop scoring.
